Christopher L. Blanton, M.D. is refractive surgery and cornea specialist. He is fellowship-trained in cornea and external diseases and has spent his career advancing his knowledge and technologies to improve patients’ vision. With extensive experience in LASIK and vision correction, he has performed over 35,000 refractive procedures.
Dr. Blanton developed his passion for correcting vision while serving in the navy. He completed his residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and interned at the San Diego Naval Hospital in California. He was appointed Chief Resident in his ophthalmology program at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He received his doctorate at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, ranking first in his class.
Dr. Blanton is a former chairman at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s panel on the Refractive Surgery Knowledge Base. He was chosen to work for Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision as a Medical Consultant and Global Medical Advisor, where he is in charge of instructing, accrediting, and counseling hundreds of medical professionals in laser vision correction. Dr. Blanton has instructed surgeons across North and South America, Europe, and Asia. He served as the lead researcher for a number of studies on the impact of altitude on patients undergoing refractive surgery and the excimer laser. Additionally, he was a part of a study that led to the widespread use of refractive surgery in the military and NASA astronauts’ approval for its usage.
Dr. Blanton is a surgeon as well as Director here at Inland Eye LASIK. He also serves as a Board Member at our sister practice, Pacific Eye Institute. He frequently educates others in the field of vision, whether ophthalmologists, optometrists, or those still studying, by presenting in webinars, conferences or even as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda. He is an accomplished researcher, with numerous publications, trial studies and peer reviews.
